My name is Margaret R. Matte [ˈmæɾi], but you can call me Maggie. I am a Level III candidate in the PhD Program in Linguistics at the CUNY Graduate Center.
I study Passamaquoddy-Maliseet (or, Peskotomuhkati-Wolastoqey), an endangered Eastern Algonquian language spoken in Maine and New Brunswick, Canada. My previous research has been in various aspects of Passamaquoddy-Maliseet grammar, including the productivity of phonological/morphological rules to loanwords (SSILA 2025) and the historical evolution of geminates (LSA 2024).
My general research interests are: Passamaquoddy-Maliseet, wh-question syntax/structure, phonology, syntax, and historical linguistics.
